The short version
You can read all articles without creating an account or accepting optional storage. This edition contains no advertising scripts, analytics services, tracking pixels, embedded social-media feeds or third-party fonts. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising through this site.
Search runs in your browser. A reading list, text-size setting and ZIP code can be remembered on your device only if you allow preferences. Weather requests go directly from your browser to the providers described below.
Information involved in a visit
- Page delivery: your hosting provider receives the IP address, requested URL, browser information and connection information necessary to deliver a page. The chosen hosting service may maintain security and access logs. This static website does not create its own visitor database.
- Search: article matching happens locally. A query may appear in the search-page URL, browser history and the hosting provider’s request logs. Avoid putting private information in search.
- Your choices: a local preference record can contain saved article IDs, the larger-text setting and a ZIP code. It is not transmitted to Sluberflow by these scripts.
- Messages: if you email [email protected], your email provider sends your email address, message and any attachments to the publication. The website itself does not submit a contact form.
Weather and location
There is no automatic IP-based location lookup and no background location tracking. When you press “Use my location,” your browser asks for permission. If granted, coordinates are rounded to two decimal places (roughly a kilometer, depending on latitude) before being sent to api.weather.gov for a forecast. Precise coordinates are never saved by this website. Denying location access does not prevent you from reading the site or entering a ZIP code.
When you submit a ZIP code, it is sent to api.zippopotam.us to find a place and approximate coordinates. Those rounded coordinates are then sent to the National Weather Service. Each provider receives your IP address and ordinary request information. These providers operate under their own practices: National Weather Service privacy and Zippopotam.us service information.
A ZIP code may be kept on this device when you allow preferences. The site only fills the ZIP field on later visits; you still press “Get forecast” to request weather. A forecast is retrieved on request, not continuously. Closing or leaving the page stops this page’s requests.
Cookies, browser storage and retention
The website scripts do not set HTTP cookies. After you choose, sf-consent-v1 stores your preference decision in localStorage for up to 180 days. If you allow preferences, sf-preferences-v1 stores your article IDs, text-size choice and ZIP code until that consent expires, for a maximum of 180 days. The browser removes these records when you clear site data; the site removes expired records the next time it runs. Revoking preferences deletes the optional record immediately.
Without permission, these reading features use only page memory and reset when you leave or reload the page. Hosting providers may independently use security or delivery technologies. Their exact log retention and technology settings must be documented by the operator for the host actually used. See the Cookie Policy for the storage table.
Why information is used
Information is used to deliver pages, operate the reading features you request, retrieve forecasts and answer messages sent directly to the publisher. Optional device storage is based on your choice. Where laws requiring a legal basis apply, optional storage relies on consent; page delivery, reasonable security measures and responding to a request may rely on the applicable service request or legitimate interests. The operator must confirm any jurisdiction-specific obligations for its actual business and hosting arrangements.
Your controls and privacy requests
Use Privacy choices to change consent, remove saved preferences or clear all Sluberflow browser data. Browser settings also let you revoke location permission and clear site data. Our code reads Global Privacy Control (GPC) when your browser exposes it; this edition carries out no sale or advertising sharing regardless of the signal. It does not use fingerprinting to identify you.
Depending on the laws that apply to you and to the operator, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, obtain a copy, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, opt out of sale or targeted-advertising sharing, or appeal a request decision. Rights and exceptions vary. Contact the publisher through the Contact page; identify the request without sending passwords, Social Security numbers, payment information or medical records. Proportionate verification may be needed, and legally protected requests will not be penalized. You may also contact your relevant privacy regulator.
Children and sensitive information
This general-audience publication is designed primarily for adults, particularly readers over 40. It is not directed at children under 13, does not offer child accounts and does not knowingly solicit children’s information. If you believe a child sent personal information to the publisher, use the contact page to request review. Do not send sensitive personal information through ordinary email.
Future changes
If advertising, analytics, subscriptions, accounts or a submission service are introduced, their data practices and consent requirements must be disclosed before they operate. A future advertising service is not covered by the current preference-only controls. Material changes will be reflected here with a new date and any renewed consent required by law.
