The 3.6% Social Security adjustment begins with benefits payable in January 2027. Increased Supplemental Security Income payments begin December 31, 2026, according to SSA. People receiving both programs should check each payment separately.
That December SSI date is the scheduled payment for January; it should not be treated as an extra monthly benefit. Your Social Security payment day still depends on your payment category and the official calendar.
Before the new payment arrives
SSA says most beneficiaries can view COLA notices in their my Social Security Message Center in late November. Its announcement tells people without an account to create one and enroll in paperless notices by November 18 to receive the notice online. Paper notices arrive in December for people who have not chosen online delivery.
Open your account by typing SSA.gov yourself. Keep a copy of the notice and compare the gross benefit, deductions and net payment instead of looking at the percentage alone.
Plan around the deposit date
Write the January payment date alongside your rent, utilities and insurance due dates. If a bill falls before your deposit, ask the provider whether its due date can be changed; do not assume the annual increase changes when that bill is due.
The official notice and payment calendar are the records to use when an online estimate differs from your actual deposit.
